For all incoming Subaru vehicles for Accessport Tuning.
Cobb introduced Project Green Speed towards the middle of this year, which can affect the ability to tune cars that have certain modifications. The updated Cobb tuning software prevents certain tuning abilities. If your car has been modified in any way to defeat emission devices that would require codes to be “deleted” or “killed,” we cannot offer tuning for your vehicle. TGV deletes, air pump deletes, non-GESI catalytic converters, etc., will prevent us from having the ability to properly tune your vehicle. We will not tune any vehicles that have had their emission equipment removed. Other than triggering an engine light, certain codes can trigger the ECU to respond in ways that will diminish the performance of the vehicle. Cobb has also removed support for flex fuel.
In a nutshell, what this means is that we cannot modify the maps you currently have, but you can certainly continue running the maps made previous to the change. Modifying an older map will strip it of the old features.
While we understand that these changes may be frustrating, understand that your car can be tuned perfectly well with your emission equipment in place. Cobb is attempting to transition EPA-compliant parts and devices in an effort to continue providing aftermarket options for your vehicle. Rest assured; they are working diligently to provide tuning options such as flex fuel.
Heavily modified off-road vehicles would need to move to a standalone solution such as MTRON or Haltech. These options are pricey but may be the only option for certain vehicles. ECUTEK is another option currently available, but we have been made to understand that they will be following COBB’s lead in the near future. We currently only offer ECUTEK tuning on the FRS/BRZ platform.
COBB has made information available on its website concerning Project Green Speed and offers a wealth of information in its FAQ section. Information can be found here: https://www.cobbtuning.com/green-speed-updates-faqs/
